Designing a permanent exhibit in a challenging space

You Are Here

You Are Here shares the stories of Cincinnati’s history—its people, places, traditions, and struggles—that spark curiosity about how life in the city was, is, and can be. This gallery is centered around three themes: Living Here, Working Here, and Playing Here.

As the exhibit designer and graphic designer, Sarah was responsible for the look and feel of the exhibit, including the floorplan, pacing, furniture designs, artifact case layouts, graphic design hierarchy, type selection, images, illustration, and file production prep.

The 3,000-square-foot exhibit space was challenging for a few reasons. Positioned in the lower level of the museum, it had an unusual shape and acted as a nexus point for many other galleries. Through iterative design and intuitive floorplanning, Sarah created an engaging gallery space that caters to the needs of visitors while allowing for freight pathways and generous egress through four potential entry points.
